Lifestyle is the Best Medicine
Top doctors, supplement companies, insurance companies and corporations believe health coaching is the key to transforming healthcare.
The recent ‘EPIC’ study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine that studied 23,000 people is one among a large evidence base documenting how lifestyle intervention (or lifestyle change) is often more effective in reducing cardiovascular disease, hypertension, heart failure, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and all-cause mortality than almost any other medical intervention.
“When the underlying lifestyle causes of risk factors are addressed, like what and how much we eat, whether we smoke, how often we exercise, how we manage stress, and the effects of environmental toxins, patients often are able to stop taking medication (under their doctor’s supervision, of course). Likewise, they often can avoid surgery as well.”
In a recent article in the Orlando Sentinel, health coach Bridgette Jameson said: “Having a health coach helps doctors provide support for patients who need help dealing with chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. The doctor’s goal is to prescribe as little medicine as possible and treat as much as we can with lifestyle. That’s where I come in.”
